After contracting Covid-19 and recovering early in the outbreak, Carrie Pearson was determined to do what she could to help her community.
She created a project to deliver hot meals twice a week to those who have been isolated or designated vulnerable by the pandemic. Based at Warley Baptist Church in partnership with Kings Community Church in Brandhall, the project is staffed by volunteers, and is now serving around 170 hot meals a week.
Carrie currently hopes to continue the project right through until September. The team are also looking at ways they can assist with the holiday hunger imitative during the school holidays.
Both Warley Baptist Church and Kings Community Church have always had an active presence in the community, and during the pandemic they have united to really maximise the support they give the community. You can find out more about their work in this feature video from the Heart of England Baptist Association.
The scheme is entirely funded by donations and grants. You can support the meal project by donating on the Warley Baptist Church Facebook page.
